
Strut Your Stuff Contest
- How You Do It: Strut, stride or stroll on our stage
- Contest Costs: $20 per registration
- Eligibility: 100 Contestants (first come, first registered).
- Registration: Friday, March 19, 2010 at event from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
- Contest Categories: There will be 20 available spots per category. Category definitions are as follows:
- Best Boot – any shoe that has material above the ankle.
- Pinnacle Pump – any shoe that has a 3" or higher heel.
- Sexiest Sandal – any shoe that has strapping.
- Funkiest Footwear – any shoe laden with design, alternate material or embellishment.
- Standout Shoe – any shoe that crosses two or more of the other four categories.
- Judging: All shoes will be judged on four criteria based on a 1 to 5 point scale with total points equaling 20 by a panel of local judges. Contestants and their shoes will be judged on:
- Form - meets the definition of category
- Creativity - artistic design of shoe and materials used
- Style - wearable and compliments outfit
- Attitude - strut, stride or stroll of contestant
- Walk-Off – in cases of a tie – 1 to 10 point scale for overall appearance.
Shoe Ball contestants will be invited to take to the runway for a second run scored by panel judges.
Prizes awarded to the first place finisher in each category.
Meet the Judges
- Stew Cohen: Described as the Voice of McHenry County, Stew Cohen has served as a radio news director for several decades. Some people born in the year he came to McHenry County to broadcast news are now in their early 30s. Some will say they wake up with Stew, of course, this means they're tuned to STAR 105.5 or Y 103.9FM in the morning as he begins his broadcast day Monday through Friday. Stew Cohen has received dozens of wire service awards, recognition for his public service work, and coverage of weather emergencies. He and his wife, Rita live in Crystal Lake with their two teenage sons. Stew is proud to represent NextMedia/WZSR-FM, WWYW-FM in its association with McHenry County College.
- Gary Reece: President of the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce as well as President/Founder of Cabinet Supply, Inc, Gary is a lifelong Crystal Lake resident with extensive leadership experience in both volunteer and business environments. He has volunteered in the community by serving on the boards of the McHenry County Housing Authority, Crystal Lake Jaycees, Crystal Lake Gala Festival, and McHenry County Homebuilders Association.
- Aaron Shepley: Aaron Shepley has been a member of Centegra Health System’s Senior Leadership Team since July 1, 2002, when he joined the System as Vice President, Quality Resources. He currently serves as Senior Vice President, Administrative Services/General Counsel for Centegra . Aaron is in his third term as Mayor of the City of Crystal Lake, Illinois, having been first elected in 1999. An avid sports enthusiast, Aaron runs, bikes, and golfs in his “spare” time, participating in many local charity events. He is also one of the founding members of the Crystal Lake “Strikers” Drum Line. Aaron and his wife Regan, who is also an attorney, have two daughters. The Shepleys make their home in Crystal Lake, not far from his boyhood home.
- Chris Krug: Chris Krug is executive editor of the Northwest Herald, where he has worked for 15 years. He lives in McHenry County with his wife Ena and their daughters, Kira and Naomi. Chris is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., and a graduate of Allegheny College.
